This landmark 1907 US Custom House designed by Cass Gilbert resides on the site of the original Dutch fortress in New Amsterdam. Home of the Southern District of New York U.S. Bankruptcy Court, its low, narrow rooms lacked the impressiveness of a court conducting large corporate proceedings. RicciGreene upgraded the U.S. Custom House's technological capabilities, improving accessibility and comfort in the interior spaces to provide a more appropriate and authoritative image.

Concealing ductwork within deep-coffered beams, a major design strategy in the renovation, allowed for maximum ceiling heights and a sense of strong visual structure in the room. The final design restores the original elements of the building, adds new elements that complement the historic and enhances the Custom House's original character.
