The new 120,000-square-foot Onondaga County/City of Syracuse criminal courthouse provides state-of-the-art security, technology, and functional capabilities for the judicial system. The design approach organized the twelve new courtrooms in a compact block largely obscured from view by existing buildings and placed the glass-clad entrance pavilion, public stairs and elevator in a prominent location at the axial terminus of the civic plaza. This bold statement announces the public nature of the building and symbolizes the transparency of the judicial process.
The building was a collaborative design between RicciGreene and Ashley McGraw Architects, with RicciGreene responsible for programming, planning, and design through design development stage.
